8th Grade Bible

Eighth grade Bible this year has been quite an adventure. As we have been working through Acts with this new group of 8th graders, we have seen all the miraculous things that God has done in starting His church. Everything from the Pentecost miracles, to the healing of crippled beggars and Ananias and Sapphira being struck down for selfishness has really made the students look differently at the book of Acts.

In addition to the book of Acts, we have had a lot of world events to discuss and bring into a Christian focus. As our world becomes a battleground of spiritual warfare, it is important for the students to understand, follow, and work through how to deal with current events. Due to the influx of major events happening in our world, we have set some time aside to discuss how these events effect us as Americans and as Christians. It has truly been a blessing to see them grow in their Christian worldviews and show their support of those effected by these events.

As we draw closer to the end of the year and graduation, we will be starting to memorize our graduation verses in a few weeks. This is a very hard thing to memorize, as it is the culmination of the all of the years memory verses! Practice, practice, practice is the key!

8th Grade Math

In 8th grade Pre-Algebra, we are laying the foundation for a successful year in Algebra 1 next year. We have started using everything we have done throughout the year and plugging it in to more algebra related materials. The students are seeing how something as simple as solving for a variable can be crucial to graphing linear equations.

We are spending a lot of time in this chapter to ensure that they are grounded in a strong foundation for when they begin algebra. The students are showing improvements in every aspect, including neatness of graphs, showing of their work, and properly correcting themselves when they miss a problem. They are starting to see that neatness and showing work makes things easier for themselves in the long run.

As we move along, I am very happy to see the students grasping the concepts. I believe that mastering this chapter will make for some great mathematicians in high school!

7th Grade Math

In 7th grade Pre-Algebra, we are growing in our knowledge of geometric shapes. This chapter includes area of simple and complex figures, volume of simple and complex figures, surface area, and comparing solids. These students amaze me each day that they come in and tackle each new lesson. This chapter is very hard and very complex, especially since geometry is something completely new to most of the them. The amount of formulas and figures they have to memorize is proving a challenge for all of them. This level of geometry is readying them for next year and beyond and they are getting better and better each day.

Coming up, we are getting back to the algebra side of math and beginning more complex algebraic equations. Using their previous knowledge of algebraic equations, I am sure that they will do very well on the coming chapters. Based on the level of difficulty that chapter 7 provided, I think that it will be a pleasant retreat back to the world of algebra.

Welcome to our UC Academy Junior High Blog!

As the principal of UC Academy Junior High, I want to extend a warm welcome to students and parents. I am excited about the great things that happen at our school. There are so many activities and opportunities for your child to get involved (ASB, sports, drama). Encourage your student to take advantage of all of these opportunities! Our UC Academy Junior High Blog is a great place to stop and check out what is happening in junior high! We will be posting photos and descriptions of our junior high activities, and teachers will be blogging about what is happening in their own classrooms! You'll notice that you can access all of our junior high teachers' blogs by simply clicking on one of the tabs above!

Again, welcome! The faculty and I are looking forward to a tremendous year!
